Qum is a holy city in northwest central Iran that has grown in renown and prestige over the years. Carpet weaving in Qum began in the 1930s, and the carpets produced there rival the best in the world today. Qum rugs are woven with the asymmetric (Persian) knot and feature designs from other Persian and Caucasian weaving groups, adjusted to the weavers' own taste.
Qum rugs are available in silk, part silk/part wool, and kork (fine wool taken from the belly of sheep). The foundation of Qum rugs could be either cotton or silk.
Qum rugs are hard wearing, finely woven, and decorative. They are commonly known to have floral designs and range from different colours, but are mainly considered to be red. They follow other famous carpets in their design.
